Executive Competencies Assessment Tool

Think you're a great team leader or change agent? You probably are, because IT leaders often work in teams and dedicate years of practice to change leadership. But how are you at strategy development? Do you have a strong external customer focus?

These and other competencies all form the well-rounded general executive leadership capability needed in business today. They are the skill portfolio of the c-suite. And they are the basis for the CIO Executive Council's Executive Competencies Assessment tool. Although not as nuanced as the members' version, the public tool will still calculate relative strengths and benchmarks in nine executive competencies.


Instructions

The self assessment consists of a variety of characteristics, behaviors or outcomes for each of the nine competencies and asks you to respond Yes only to those statements that describe consistent repeatable behavior or outcomes in your leadership. Don't respond Yes to actions you only aspire to but rarely perform. Skipping a response counts as a No. It should take 10-15 minutes to complete the whole questionnaire.


Origins

The tool is built on a measurement model developed by Egon Zehnder International. This recruiting and talent appraisal firm has spent over a decade developing and validating this competency model, and in the past seven years has conducted more than 25,000 in-person assessments across all executive and director-level functions using the model.
